The sixth edition of the Windrush Caribbean Film Festival officially opens this weekend with a powerful line-up of films screening across the UK and online. Celebrating stories from across the diaspora, this year’s programme invites audiences to reflect, remember and reimagine the legacy of Windrush through cinema.

This year’s festival was led by communications strategist and cultural producer Juanita Rosenior, who stepped into the role of Festival Director to bring strategic oversight, operational rigour and delivery focus to the project at a crucial time in its development.

“I didn’t expect to lead a national film festival this year but that’s exactly what happened,” Juanita says.

“From programming and marketing to logistics and filmmaker liaison, I took on the task of shaping the 2025 edition and seeing it through to delivery. It’s been full-on and I’m proud of what’s been built.”

Over the past few months, Juanita assembled and directed a small team of freelancers to support festival delivery across multiple regions, coordinated programming and scheduling, oversaw web and communications systems, and provided brand and production support.

Now, with the festival officially live and audiences beginning to engage with the stories on screen, she marks the moment as both a celebration and a close.

“As I return the festival to its directors, I do so with pride in the work, clarity in my decision to step away, and deep respect for the filmmakers at the heart of it all.”

The Windrush Caribbean Film Festival 2025 runs  from the 14 – 29 June, with events in Liverpool, Hackney, Dalston, Birmingham, Brixton, Glasgow, and Stratford, as well as on demand online.
