Cultural Curator, Producer and TGRG Client Natalie Fiawoo presents Before Them, We this coming August.

Before Them, We is a multidisciplinary project led by artist and cultural producer, Ruth Sutoyé. It explores the lives primarily of grandparents & intergenerational relationships of African descent in the UK, and how we archive and preserve oral histories.

The exhibition consists of portraits and oral history interviews (and at the latter stage of the run, a short film). The interviews will include stories of migration and more, emphasising the importance of preserving narratives of diasporic communities.

Attendees will also be able to engage in the events programme including, long table panels, a documentary photography workshop, an oral history workshop, and a poetry film screening led by Black practitioners across various industries. Twenty-five poets of African descent will contribute to an accompanying poetry anthology, launching in 2022 by Flipped Eye Publishing. The Anthology will pay homage to African grandparents and explore the narratives of their lives that are lesser-known.

Before Them, We is curated by Natalie and produced by producer/artist, Ruth Sutoyé, and producer/writer, Tobi Kyeremateng. The exhibition will open to the public on Thursday, 12th August, at Black Cultural Archives.
